The public food markets of Kinshasa are becoming more and more degraded following environmental ingovernance, ecological ignorance, poor governance of the city of Kinshasa in general, the dilapidation of basic equipment and infrastructure, the incivility of the Kinois and the abandonment of sanitation and hygiene practices in all their components. The Somba Zigida market is more frequented by sellers, resellers and households. But for some time its environmental quality has become inconvenient and worrying. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the level of insalubrity and exposure of regulars of this market to possible diseases. In order to propose strategies. To achieve this, the approach methodology was used with the use of the systemic approach, the review and documentary analysis, websites, description, field observations, data collection by questionnaire and interview. The android phone, Camon 30 facilitated the recordings and shootings. The sampling of targets was possible thanks to the probabilistic approach and by reasoned choice with 271 sellers. Other information was revealed by the managers of this market, residents and buyers. The results showed that the health and environmental situation of this market is precarious according to 90% of respondents, the management of solid and liquid waste is not well organized. Sellers (45%) use non-ecological means to get rid of waste. 98% of sellers decry the mediocrity of the sanitation service of this market and the poor conditions of sale. 61% of sellers have contacted malaria Which makes sustainable development, greening of sellers, buyers and administrators as first-choice strategies to improve this state of affairs in addition to other perspectives.
